Remeron withdrawal and insomnia relief

by luvmyfamily, Apr 10, 2004 12:00AM
I had been taking 30mg of remeron for 1 year with very little side effects.  It successfully treated the insomnia and anxiety I felt shortly after my second child was born.  I had also experienced severe post partum depression after the birth of my first child.  I decided to come off of remeron after receiving the ok from my Dr.  I tapered down to 15mg for 1 month with only interrupted sleep for 1 wk and the tired feeling.  I stopped completely 9 days ago.  I have had interrupted sleep since.  Two days ago I started feeling like I had the stomach flu with severe back pain.  I have not eaten much in the last 2 days.  I vomited last night and didn't sleep much at all.  Although I feel much better this morning.  I am eating breakfast and the back pain seems to be going away.  I have read that these can be common withdrawal symptoms from remeron.  I haven't had any anxiety or any other withdrawal symptoms, but I am a stay at home mom with 2 small children and I need my sleep!  Is it safe to take the herb valerian or any other herbal sleep aid to help with my sleep now that I have been off of remeron for 9 days?  How long does it take for remeron to get out of your system?  When will my normal sleep patterns return?  I was always one of those people who could sleep any time any where.  How long can the withdrawal symptoms last?  They do seem to be subsiding.

This medication has  a half life of 2 days, meaning by this time you should have little or no amount in your tissues. I would expect these symptoms to diminish and disappear quite rapidly, and if they don't, you should query your doctor and be evaluated for some other unrelated cause. It would seem safe to use other means to get to sleep during this transition period.

I have been taking Remeron for the better part of 5 years.  I have always taken a very small amount--7.5 mgs before bed and slept well throughout.  My problem is a constant feeling of fatigue during the daytime hours.  I have tried unsuccessfully to stop taking Remeron numerous times for this reason.  But each time I have been faced with sleepless nights and bad days following and have always gone back to taking it.
This last Friday(5 days ago), under M.D. supervision, I stopped taking the Remeron again and have not been doing well since.  I am unable to sleep and feel nauseous and shaky during the day.  Please address Remeron's withdrawal symptoms.
I recently saw online that there are fatigue symptoms associated with small dosages of Remeron that can actually be improved by taking a higher dosage.  Is this true?
Thank you

I'm currently on zoloft and remeron and it feels like hell im constantly having anxiety/minor panic attacks, VERY IRRITABLE, so I'm gonna talk to my doctor about getting off of remeron because I never had anxiety like this... I feel like my medicine is controlling me and that I feel like I'm out of control (Like that feeling when you're really excited and you like doing something and when someone tells you to stop you don't, like that) It's weird.
