Side Effects of Tapering off of Zoloft

by NoMoreZoloft, Jan 31, 2002 12:00AM
For the past 3 months I have been taking 100mg of Zoloft per day.  My psychiatrist doesn't think I need to be on it anymore, so I have been tapering it 25mg per week.  I have been completely off of the pills for two days, and I have dizzy spells that only last for one-two seconds which I have read about from people who come off of it.  Just wanted to make sure this is normal.  The psychiatrist is going to put me on some mood stabilizer drug now, so I need to get off this stuff.  I took 25 milligrams of Zoloft this morning to see if it will help.  Anyone have any idea if this is normal?

Thanks

That is not an abnormal response. The dizzy spells should become less frequent and go away in less than ten days...if they don't, then you will have to have that checked out by your doctor.

I certainly hope it is normal because it sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing.  I've been at 50 mg for the last seven months but have now tapered off to my last 25 mg dose six days ago. I feel like I'm pregnant sometimes! (although more than slightly impossible)  let's check in with our doctor if this continues. If you've been experiencing this for that long, I would not have any doses without your doctor knowing exactly what you're doing. Be careful and be sensible.  Best wishes...

Thank you both for your comment.  I spoke to my psychiatrist today, and he said that this is normal.  He said I may also feel tired and uncomfortable a bit.  He said if it is not better by the time I see him on Feb 11th, then something else may be going on.  So don't worry Amy, I think we will be okay.

Hi,
I have been taking 25-50 mg of Zoloft for about 8 months. I was wondering if my side effects were common. For this time period, I have felt like I'm walking in a daze. I'm always tired and feel as though everything in my life is somehow "unreal." Has anyone else experienced these side effets? If so did they go away?
