Stopping Depakote and Geodon

by tamlloyd, Oct 22, 2007 09:35AM
I recently stopped taking Geodon to stop my sluggish reaction. I was taking 80 mg every night at bedtime. I am still taking 500 mg of Depakote ER every night. I am going to run out soon - about January - and wanted to know what type of withdrawal symptoms to expect.

Help.

You should be under the care of a doctor for this...the withdrawal effect that is most worrisome is seizures that can occur if withdrawal is too rapid and not covered by another medication for weaning and safety purposes.

I cannot comment on the Depakote, but I stopped taking Geodon about 3 months ago and for 7 weeks I suffered from insomnia, anxiety, and lack of appetite.  Now that my body has recovered, I feel much better than I did while on Geodon.  You may not have the same symptoms that I had, but I would recommend at least a 3 week taper.  Good Luck!
