My OCDObsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms are interconnected with my depression. The more OCDObsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms I have, the more depressed I get. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for the last 10 years and tried numerous SSRI's and antidepressants. They helped a little, but my symptoms are sometimes better sometimes worst regardless of what medication I'm taking. Last year, my OCD symtoms was more intensed and I had suicidal thoughts. I never acted out on them, but I had everything mapped out in my head for the suicide. Now the OCD symptoms and depression are not as bad. though they may get worst again. I also had behavioral therapy. Do you know if I can be candidate for such a surgery since I have treatment refractory OCD and depression. I'm not disabled by it. I can still work and make a living though my social life is seriously impeded. Can I ask my psychiatrist to recommend this surgery?
I don't know enough to recommend this. It is controversial and radical so instead of asking your doctor to recommend it, why don't you have a serious discussion with him or her about it, take your time, and think it through. a big decision.
