What to do for morning blahs? Any suggestions?

by Chase Miller, Nov 07, 1999 12:00AM
I am in therapy and currently take a therapeutic dosage of an antidepressant.  Oftentimes, my depression is at its worst in the mornings.  I have had my metabolism checked but it is very difficult for me to get going in the mornings.  I am nervous and sometimes irritable.  If it is a good day, these problems seem to disappear by 3:00 or 3:30, and I can work effectively.  I can relax and by 7 or 8, I sometimes feel symptom-free.

Does anyone else have these same problems?  Has anyone any sugestions as to how best to cope or, even better, how to get rid of these morning blahs?  I look forward to reading every response.  Thanks.

Dear Doug,

I empathize with your situation. However, your problem is not uncommon and there are different factors that may need consideration.

Are you adequately getting enough rest at night? Do you go to bed early enough to get 6-8 hrs/night? If so, do you have several waking periods at night?

Does you current medication affect your sleep? Are you receiving adequate dosage and the appropriate medication for your symptoms?

You may want to re-consult your psychiatrist for a re-evaluation.

Sincerely,
