Does anyone know of any other drug other than Xanax that has been successful in treating Tinnitus?  Xanax has helped me with my Tinnitus for the past 9 years but now I am off Xanax and the ringing is louder than ever and I don't want to go back to Xanax unless I have to.  So has anyone been successful in treating their Tinnitus with drugs othe than Xanax?
Thanks
Dan

Dan,
Tinnitus refers to a persistent ringing or whistling sound in the ear, which may be caused by medical disorders such as various ear diseases, anemia, or hypertension. There is also a high co-morbidity of tinnitus and psychiatric disorders such as Panic Disorder, and some other anxiety states.
I would recommend that you consult your primary care physician for a complete medical check-up to rule out medical causes of your tinnitus. If no medical causes are found, you may find it helpful to consult a psychiatrist for formal evaluation and treatment. Xanax (Alprazolam) is a benzodiazepine medication that is useful in the treatment of various anxiety disorders.
