Xanax withdrawl

Hi, I have been on xanax 6mg per day for 6 months. Am I hopelessly addicted, or can I taper off still? I have developed a tolerance and do not want to go the wrong way. One MD reccomended .5mg reduction every 10 days. Am I in for living hell like this?

That is a very large dose, and a true addiction.  YOu can wean very slowly until you get down to 1 mg /day, then go even more slowly, and ask your doctor about substituting klonopin for a transitional period, and then wean off klonopin which is much easier and safer.
