any development in gene therapy for schizophrenia?

my son is schizophrenic, he lives in a group compound and is functional,with the right meds. he could be a viable assest
to society.  As yet nothing has helped him well enough for him to be able to function outside the foundation that is caring for him.  Since this disease is a chemical imbalance and he is not brain damaged, will gene therapy be of benefit and is there anything on the horizon on this type of therapy?

Dear Patricia,
    It must be difficult for you to see your son with this devastating
disease.  I am unaware of any specific new findings in gene therapy.  I do
know that new medications are being developed to specifically target brain
receptors believed to be responsible for the symptoms of schizophrenia. It is important that your son continues treatment with his psychiatrist.  My best wishes .
