depression vs. borderline personality disorder

Dear J,

Depression and borderline personality disorder are two different illnesses.

In Borderline Personality Disorder the sufferer may present with mood swings, impulsive behavior (spending sprees, substance abuse), self mutilating or suicidal behavior, difficulty maintaining longterm relationships, alternating between extremes of idealization and devaluation, feelings of emptiness similar to depression.
The symptoms are part of the patient's character or personality.

In depression the sufferer may present with depressed mood, disturbed sleep, decreased motivation and other symptoms. For a complete discription refer to our forum search.
The patient doesn't necessarily suffer from the mood swings or impulsivity. It represents the patient's mood, not personality.

I hope this response addresses your question.

Respectfully,

HFHS M.D.-SW

HI
I have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality and I honestly diddnt believe tha the symptoms that people were saying I had, I had. I am currently on Cipramil and I don't feel as though it is helping enough. It helps with the moods, but that is all.
Do you have any sugestions that might help me?

                 Thankyou

I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder several years ago.  It was hard for me to believe it for 2 years.  I finally decided it was true when certain things happened and I couldn't explain why.  There were 53 of us and now after several years of therapy, we finally became intergrated about two weeks ago.  I want you to know that, there is an end to this nightmare and someday you will reach it.

Can Paxil alter sedimentation rate? If so would this be a result of serontonin syndrome?

To Diane Doles-
In your response, were you saying that there were 52 of "you", and just recently you felt integrated?
I am wondering only because I feel like I change so much depending on where I am or who I am with.  I no longer feel like I have an integrated sense of self and am uncertain about how to reclaim this.

Hi!
Once, I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality. The truth is,that I was diagnosed after I had a problem with my boyfriend and I tried to get his attention by taking two or three stupid pills and he took me to the hospital. The doctor inmediatly diagnosed "bordeline personality"!

After reading about this disorder, I can't denied I have found that I have most of the symptoms,  but how can I actually be sure that I have this disorder? If somebody can help me in figuring this out, would be very appreciated.

Thanks a LOT

Annie
