I am a firm believer that you are on too many medications no matter what the underlying problem is.  If you were my patient, I would take you off all of this, and start all over again, the reason being at this juncture, with all those meds, you can't sort out which symptoms come from within, and which are from the medications.  You have to talk to your doctor about this. You can start by losing weight and that will help with everything, including b.p.   You can go to www.masteringfood.com to get some help for weight, and also insight into the underlying causes of your depression.

I am on many medications, but when I got on them and got mentally healthy, then I was able to lose weight (45 pounds).  I did weight watchers and I walk an hour almost everyday.  I also lift weights.   I, too, am concerned about the number of medications I'm on.  Let's see...geodon, thyroid, wellbutrin, provigil, clonazepam, and ambien.  I don't like that I'm on so many medications, but I do like the results that I'm getting.  I've never felt better in my life (except that my anxiety has been acting up lately).  I'm sorry to hear about your weight gain, but just wanted to be an encouragement to you that you can lose weight. If you do what weight watchers says, I think it will work.  Also, the nike slogan, "Just do it" is very practical when it comes to exercising.  Many days, I don't feel like going out there and walking, but I do it anyway.
Good luck!

I might have a solution on losing weight but first let me explain something. My wife had back surgery a few months ago and she suffers from depression and anxiety. Also she is on a total of 12 different medications ranging on medicines for her back, blood pressure, cholestrol, depression, anxiety and such. Since her surgery she has gained weight even though the spine surgeon has her on an aggressive exercise and I will explain her exercise program. On the very first day from getting home from the hospital she had to walk 5 times for 5 minutes each. Each day she had to increase the walks by one minute and walk 5 times daily until she was up to 5 walks daily for 30 min. each. Yes that is 5x30= 2 and a half hours a day walking! No amount of puttering around the house counts, it has to either be outside or in a shopping mall. There is no such thing as her sleeping in, she sets the alarm clock for 5:30 A.M. and WE start our walks. The spine surgeon will not allow her to use a treadmill as he thinks that would do her more harm than good. WALK WALK WALK.

The exercise isn't the only thing! She is on a 1000-1200 calorie diet a day. She has to plan what she eats a day and she has educated herself by looking online how many calories each thing she eats has.

Hopefully someday this will all pay off and it will be worth it. Maybe a similiar exercise program and diet will help someone else here. cbsr

by Prozac Is Poison, Dec 25, 2005 12:00AM

Prozac causes irreversible damage to the brain and nervous system. For info look at the prozac survivor support group website ,do a google search on Peter Breggin MD

To date a chemical problem in the brains of depressed people has never been proven. In fact its failed to be proven countless times.Your GP may believe you have a lack of serotonin in your brain but there is absolutely no reason for this to be true.

In any case you can get all the serotonin your body could need from eating any food rich in tryptophan (this is the amino acid which is a precursor to serotonin).Turkey for example if very rich in this .

If you get your serotonin from eating naturally you wont damage your brain functioning and your nervous system and permanently damage yourself and your sensitivity for the rest of your life.

Prozac was never trailed properly. It proved no more effective in treating depression than a placebo and the company who make prozac, eli lilly hid secret evidence about its harmful effects.People on trail had violent and suicidal tendencies and some of them carried it out.
People who didnt respond as they liked to the drug was withdrawn from the trail and they were given other drugs to counteract prozacs harmful effects.

Eli lilly are so corrupt they have tested their drugs on homeless alcoholics before and the body who is supposed to approve drugs for safe use (who has also said that many drugs that are now banned were safe before), the Food and Drugs Administration(FDA) have close financial ties with the drug companies.

Prozac is harming you and wont stop harming you even if side effects wear off .Your doctor doesnt need to worry about it he/she gets their commission from eli lilly for giving it to you!

I quote you from "talking back to prozac" written by Peter Breggin MD,the man who testifies in court against Eli Lilly the company who produce prozac whose expert medical evidence they have never contested but have had to pay out millions on the basis of :

"prozac induces severe biochemical dysfunction in the brains of people and experimental animals, not only in the serotonergic neurotransmitter system, but in the dopaminergic and adrenergic as well. Can this dysfunction become persistent or permanent? In a sad commentary on my profession i must state that seemingly no one including Lilly Research Laboratories, is trying to find out."

Prozac has more reported side effects than any other in history. It is an SSRI just like cocaine and amphetamine. It proved to be no more effective than a placebo in initial trails and it was only after manipulating test conditions and doctoring results that it was approved.     Hidden information about its psychosis-inducing effects has now been exposed which the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), who approved the pill to be marketed in the first place, have admitted they originally had no knowledge of.

No form of mental illness has EVER been proven to be a biochemical condition, not OCD `s,ADD or clinical depression. The brain is simply too complicated and if very little understood. The only people found to have chemical imbalances in their brains are the people prescribed this "medication" and thats because they cause brain abnormalities not cure them.

If youre a guy and youre on prozac i hope you dont enjoy sex because the first independent study carried out revealed 75% of men suffer some form of sexual impairment on prozac (all SSRI` s have this affect). Most of them have loss of labido many others become impotent. Not everyone regains their sexual functioning after they discontinue the drug.

Reported risks spur new study of ADHD drugs
By Andrew Bridges

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Reports of sudden deaths, strokes, heart attacks and hypertension in both children and adults taking drugs to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder are spurring new government study into the medications' safety.

Sales of drugs to treat ADHD have increased sharply in recent years, with use growing at a faster rate among adults than children, according to a recent study by Medco Health Solutions, a prescription benefit manager. Spending on ADHD drugs soared from $759 million in 2000 to $3.1 billion in 2004, according to IMS Health, a pharmaceutical information and consulting firm.

The Food and Drug Administration said it had received reports of what it called "serious adverse events" — including deaths — in association with the therapeutic use of the drugs. The agency considers the reports "rare though serious," FDA spokeswoman Susan Bro said Wednesday.

The FDA's Canadian counterpart, Health Canada, yanked the ADHD drug Adderall (adderrall) XR from the market for six months last year in response to reports of 20 sudden deaths and 12 strokes in adults and children using the drug. A number of the cases involved children with structural heart defects.

The panel eventually concluded there was inadequate evidence of increased harm from Adderall (adderrall) XR compared with other available therapies, a conclusion the FDA also reached based on data on hand.

Now the U.S. regulatory agency is asking its Drug Safety and Risk Management advisory committee to examine ways of studying further the potential cardiovascular risks of the drugs. The few studies that have looked at longer-term use of ADHD drugs provide little information on those risks, the FDA said.

The committee is to meet Feb. 9-10 in Gaithersburg, Md.

"The issue of drug treatment of attention deficit disorder in children has been a controversial one without this issue of cardiovascular risk, too. It adds another concern to what will certainly be an interesting conversation," said Arthur Levin, the FDA committee's consumer representative.

A posting to the FDA Web site did not identify any of the drugs by name. However, the most commonly used ADHD drugs include Adderall (adderrall) XR, made by Shire Pharmaceuticals, and Ritalin, made by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. Various other companies make generic versions of Ritalin as well.

Shire spokesman Matthew Cabrey said the company had not been told of the meeting but added it may send representatives. Novartis did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

MY MOTHER HAS BEEN "SICK" FOR THE LAST 7 MONTHS. SHE IS DEFINATELY A HYPERCONDRIAC AND I FEEL SHE HAS OCD. THE DOCTORS HAVE DONE SEVERAL TEST ON HER (BLOOD WORK, EKG, MRI, CAT) THE ONLY THING THEY HAVE DEFINATELY DIAGNOSED HER WITH IS ANXIETY. WE ADMITTED HER IN THE HOSPITAL FOR 30 DAYS (INSURANCE ONLY COVERS THAT) THEY THOUGHT AT FIRST SHE WAS SCHITZOPHRENIC(HOWEVER YOU SPELL IT) I WAS THINKING MAYBE BIPOLAR. BEFORE SHE WAS ADDMITTED SHE WAS TAKING LEXAPRO AND KLONOPIN AND VALIUM (SHE HAS BEEN TAKING VALIUM FOR THE LAST 20+ YEARS FOR STRESS) OF COURCE THE VALIUM HAD STOPPED WORKING, WHICH I TRUELY BELIEVE WAS THE BEGINNING OF THIS ENTIRE ORDEAL. SHE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL REACTIONS AFTER STARTING THESE MEDS TOGETHER. SHE HAS TRIED ANTI-DEPRESSANTS IN THE PAST AND DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY THEY MADE HER FEEL SO SHE QUIT THEM BEFORE THEY EVER COULD WORK. ANYWAY, SHE STARTED PACING AND SHOUTING THE MAJORITY OF HER WAKING HOURS, SHE PREFERRED TO SLEEP BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T PACE. SHE CAME UP WITH SEVERAL ILLNESS THAT SHE WAS CONVINCED WERE REAL, BUT TEST PROVED DIFFERENT. SHE WAS CONVINCED THE MEDS HAD GIVEN HER A STROKE OR DAMAGED HER ORGANS. THE PSYCH DOC WHO WAS OVERSEEING HER ONLY SAW HER 15 MIN. EVERY WEEK OR EVERY 2 WEEKS, OF COURCE MY MOM CALLED HER ALMOST DAILY TO CHANGE MEDS OR ASK IF THEY CAUSED DAMAGE. THE PHYCH DOC REALLY DROPPED THE BALL!!!!!! IN THE HOSPITAL THEY WEANED HER OFF VALIUM SLOWLY TOOK HER OFF LEXAPRO IN ABOUT A WEEKS TIME, PUT HER ON RISPERDOL, CEREQUIL, REMERON, LITHIUM, A HEART MED, EXLAX (CONSTIPATION), AND SMALL DOSE OF VALIUM AS SHE WAS BEING WEANED. SHE WAS DOPEY AND PRETTY SUBDUED OF COURCE ALL SHE THOUGHT ABOUT THE ENTIRE TIME WAS WHAT THE COST OF THE BILL WOULD BE. THEY YO-YOED HER BETWEEN THESE MEDS THE ENTIRE 30 DAYS AND THEN MET WITH US AND PREPOSED ELECTRIC SHOCK BECAUSE THE MEDS WERE NOT DOING WHAT THEY EXPECTED. WE SAID NO!! SO AT THE END OF 30 DAYS THEY SAID HER PARANOYA WAS GONE AND THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE HER A THREAT TO HERSELF SO THEY RELEASED HER DIAGNOSING HER WITH ANXIETY.
MY OPINION IS THAT NONE OF THE DRUGS HAD TIME TO WORK, SHE SPENT ALOT OF HER TIME WITHDRAWING, SHE WAS TAKING TO MANY MEDS( 2 ANTI-DEPRESSANTS, 2 ANTI-PSYCHOTICS, AND A NERVE DRUG VALIUM) I BEGGED THEM TO TAKE HER TOTALLY OFF ANTI-DEPRESSANTS AND TRY THE LITHIUM BY ITS-SELF BUT THEY DIDN'T THINK THAT WAS A GOOD IDEA. I THINK THEY WERE OFFENDED THAT I QUESTIONED THEM.
SHE HAS BEEN HOME SINCE CHRISTMAS AND IS JUST AS BAD AS BEFORE. MY DAD, AT WITS END , TOOK HER OFF EVERYTHING FOR 3 DAYS BUT HER MD THOUGHT SHE SHOULD BE BACK ON AT LEAST LITHIUM, CEROQUIL, REMERON(SO SHE CAN SLEEP, CAN YOU SAY SLEEPING PILLS?) AND THE HEART MED. SHE IS NOW CONVINCED SHE HAS TOXICISITY DUE TO MIXING ALL THE MEDS(SHE CALLED A PHARMACIST AND HE TOLD HER THAT COULD HAPPEN, I'D LIKE TO TELL HIM A FEW THINGS!!) SHE SAYS SHE IS DYING AND HER BRAIN IS DAMAGED ALONG WITH ALL HER ORGANS, SHE HAS GIVEN UP. THE SYMPTOMS SHE HAS ARE SPURRATIC AND SHE CAN STOP DOING THEM WHEN HER MIND IS ON SOMETHING ELSE.
WE CANNOT AFFORD ANOTHER HOSPITALIZATION AND HONESTLY ARE AFFRAID OF THEM. SHE WANTS ANOTHER MRI, WHICH THE INSURANCE PROBABLY WILL NOT COVER ANOTHER ONE(3 IN 4 MONTHS) WE HAVE NO WHERE TO TURN AND WE ARE ALL MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY EXHAUSED IN DEALING WITH THIS, IT IS EVERY DAY ALL DAY.
I TRUELY BELIEVE THE LITHIUM ALONE COULD HAVE HELPED HER BUT WE MAY NEVER KNOW. ANY ADVICE OR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WOULD HELP. KEEP FIGHTING I KNOW IT IS A TOUGH ROAD.
