prozac psychosis

I have been taking 20 mg prozac for two weeks now and can hardly drive as I cannot trust my impressions or senses. I am paranoid and feel like my actions are remote control.  I have been reading quantum physics the last two days to deny the absolute reality of these impressions. I surfed the web and found many references to harsh side effects from prozac and many anecdotal horror stories claiming yearlong battles to recover from the drug to include delayed reaction after quitting. Most claiming they thought they were crazy and would never find their way back. This experience has put me off the idea of drugs.  I am going to taper off in half increments for a week unless you can convince me prozac freakout is normal. i had most of the mental side effects listed as serious and worried about arrythmias. If it were not for radical impression challenging I probably would have lost it. Help, I have heard that most psychs. think you are nutz if you report this.

I also wanted to mention that I smell a strange odor that wafts through my nostrils periodically and in my sweat on my face and from feces and urine, as if it was a toxin in my blood that I was rejecting as fast as my body will allow.

dgull, can you please tell me where you heard about the "year long battles to recover" from the drug? That would be so helpful if you have time, thanks.

http://www.prozactruth.com                                                                                                        It seems that many many are hurt much more than they are helped by ssri's. I cant believe that most health care providers don't know to taper off or that The producer is able to do only 4 weeks of human studies after rat studies and make the stuff. It seems that the important thing is that hmo's can just prescribe a drug instead of expensive therapy time with a pro for life management relief. I dont believe that the other ssri's are any better and I was shocked to learn that they are in the same direct family as fen fen and the other heart valve destroyers and worsen heart disease, This makes them particularly bad choices for those that are hypertensive cuz of stress, depression and the attendant feeling of loss of control.

I just want you to know that I've been on 20mg Prozac for a year now.  For the first 2 weeks, I, too had felt very weird driving my car.  But, just give it a chance, it'll all even out and you'll see the difference in how calm you can stay throughout rough times in your life.  I swear by it.  I still have my sexual drive and no other side effects.  Just thought I'd let you know for your own well-being.  Good Luck!

Well I think you were probably like that before you took it because I take it and I think it is wonderful.

I think you are doing people a disservice when you bash this drug.  It really works.
