It depends on your employer and the state laws that govern where you live.

Hi there. Ive been on disability (Canada Pension Disability) because of mental health issues, for about 3 years now. Im not sure where you live, but here in canada, if you get a note from your doctor explaining you condition and why you cant work at this time, they can get you on disability. I had two letters. One from my family doctor who has seen me for 17 years and one from my psychiatrist who i have been seeing for 4 years. There is red tape everyone has to go through and they want a lot of details and things you would never think they would want, but if you have the patience to get through it all, its worth it.

I guess this will be dependent, in part, on which country you live in.
Some companies will fund stress leave depending on your line of work, contractual agreement, etc.
In my country, depending on the nature of the stress (accident, crime, mh, etc) leave would be covered by different government departments.
Sometimes there are factors which may either include or exclude you from accessing disability.
I would call your local support service for more information.  They should be able to help and direct you towards appropriate support.  Some departments have info on the net too which could be a good place to start.  Be careful though as that material can sometimes be confusing.  Make sure you discuss your situation with someone in person.
