Crystal,

Bipolar disorder is a chronic mental illness characterized by extreme moodswings.  Moodstabilizing agents like Depakote and Lithium are the mainstay of treatment.  A second agent in additon to depakote could be considered based on your current Depakote level and tolerability.  The key with treating Bipolar disorder is to get good control early on to prevent or minimize further mood episodes from occuring.  Please speak with your treating psychiatrist about options.  Good luck.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM

I can totally relate to your problems.  I'm bipolar as well, and have gone through countless amounts, and different types of medications.  Finally, now after a year of 2 hospitalizations, and endless meds I am doing o.k..  I thought my psychiatrist was out of her mind.  But somehow she has finally found the right combination for my strange mind.  Knowing a lot about the human body I know that it is constantly changing, and that's why people have to change there kinds and doses of meds frequently.  Maybe you should try a med switch.
Hange in there! Because believe me I am a miracle.  I am still alive.
