zoloft and diarhea(diarrhea)

I was recently prescribed zoloft for my depression due to chronic illnesses. I have been experiencing a lot of diarhea (diarrhea) with blood today..could the zoloft be excrabating this problem? I have an undiagonsed bowel problem going on, they said I have acute colitis site limited....no furthur treatment is needed. I don't know how many times I have been to the bathroom today. Please advise..can't take this much longer.

Terri,
Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal distress is not uncommon to experience with Zoloft during the first few days of starting it. Keep in mind that it generally remits within this time period. It can make pre-existing problems worse. It may be helpful to take the Zoloft with some food to minimize its impact.
