zoloft question

by RUNNER55, Mar 09, 2002 12:00AM
Hello,
I have been taking zoloft, 25 mgs, for 6 weeks.  I  feel this is very helpful, but I've definitely noticed 2 side effects that are bothersome.  First is my vision is extremely sensitive to sunlight.  And secondly, I have numerous body twitches, most prononounced upon awakening in the morning.  I would simply like to know if these effects will gradually go away.  And are the body twitches anything to be concerned about?  In the side effects list from the phamarmacy, it did list muscle spasms/twitches.  What could cause this?  I hope I'm not making some sort of underlying medical condition worse?  Any info from other posters would be welcome, also.
Thank you
R/55  I'd also like to give advice to anyone out there who struggles with panic and have tried the ssri's, only to have the symptoms worsen.  I was the same way,  but I began this med very very slowy.  1/4 tablet at a time.  Increasing every 3 weeks.  This has made taking this so very easy. And the change in mood and calmness are amazing.  I was very depressed and full of anxiety for a long time.  There is hope.  You just need to be patient.

Both side effects are common, and are not assositated with activation of an underlying disease, but simply another effect of a very powerful drug.

These symptoms may not go away altogether, but will probably become less prominent or important over time.

Think I can help you here.  On Zoloft for several months now.  Initial side affects included trembeling hands, sweaty palms and feet, and some tension headaches.  Also some insomnia.  Regarding light sensitvity, I have notice that the flourscent lights over my cube tend to affect the way my monitor looks now, definitely have noticed a difference.

Anyway, about the only side affect symptoms left are trembling finger tips and insominia.

Hope that helped...

Thank you so much for your response. Which is more than I seem to be getting from the doctor of this site.    I still have trembling hands from time to time, which really bugs me, because I thought this stuff was supposed to help, not increase, anxiety.  Hopefully this will all pass.  Have you noticed positive results, though?  Regarding your insomnia, I had that in the beginning, but switched to taking this in the morning instead of evening.  Insomnia is gone, haven't slept this well in ages.
Best wishes,
R/55

I did switch to morning, but still have some problems waking up same time every night.  With every problem solution comes another problem with anxiety, haha.

My primary symptoms seem to have been addressed by Zoloft, game plan with doctor is to wean off after six months.

I was wondering about the drs. comment about zoloft being a powerful drug. I was always told that zoloft was one of the milder ones and the antiphycotic drugs were the powerful ones.

I want to thank you for the statement u made about taking only 25 mgs. that was something beneficial i told my son. Glad u are doing good.

Hello, peacetrain,
You know, it's interesting,  I was wondering too why the doctor says how powerful these drugs are.  It rather worries me as am I doing some kind of damage to my brain in someway.?  I wish others would comment on this too, the powerfulness of these medications.  And if others have the same concerns.
My very best wishes for your son.  You sound like a very thoughtful Mom.

back to runner.....after what my son has been taking (zyprexa) antiphycotic, zoloft is very mild, i have checked it out. I don't like meds for mental troubles but they do help to get thru a hard time, i am a firm believer in phycotherapy or counciling and meds only short term, so i am doin everything i can to encourage my son to do this counciling and support groups. I did and i am free from that horrible disorder now. I only take magnesium and calcium combination, it gives me energy and calcium helps me sleep good, i heard in a recent bulletin that it actually builds serotonin back in the brain that gets depleted from drug abuse and alcohol. And other things that are unhealthy, even negative thinking can damage our brain chemicals.
