12 yr. male 4 week headache

I have a 12 year old son, ( yes pre puberty) developed a chronic headache, says it stay on the top oh his head, no where else.  Also has dizziness, occassional vomiting.  This has been going on for 4 weeks!!!!  We have had blood tests. CBC, Chem 7, Thyroid test, Cholesterol levels and a MRI.  Doctor thinks migraine but tylenol, ibprofine, and even codine ( perscreibed by doctor ) does not help the pain.  We are looking to have his eyes examined but he has 15/20 in both eyes.  Would really like to pick someones brain to see what they think.  Thanks for you time.

Hi, As usual medicines which you have tried has not given much relief and the investigation findings not described , i would like to suggest you to consult an neurophysician and ophtholmologist for a check up before it worsens further.

I think there is a possibility of migraine and/or tension type headache. Also chronic headaches can occur if the pain medication is taken too frequently.Many times high level of stress and anxiety created by peer pressure can lead to chronic headache in children.Foods and beverages containing MSG, caffeine in soda and chocolates can trigger headache in children. It is also important to rule out vision problems and acute sinusitis.Hope he feels better soon!

My 12.5 year old daughter developed a constant headache 10 weeks ago. She has it all day, every day at different levels. We could only get the DR to do a CT of the head. We found a great pediatric neurologist. He explained that more and more cases of this Chronic Daily Headache are coming to him. There is no explaination as to why they start or how to cure them. They just start start one day. They are treating her with medication. We are in the early stages of Topamax since Amitryptaline didn't work for her. I'm prepared for this to be a long road...... Don't give up. My daughter is looking for someone who understands her situation. She has lost her friends. She was an A student and stresses about missing school. Right now she is only going 3 hours to school. Some days she can tolerate that with the dull headache and other days she can't.  It is draining me as much as her because I want to fix her.  Yep, it is pre puberty time at this age. I'm sure it has something to do with it, but the DR won't admit that. He says it is all a mystery right now.
