After hitting my head I now have sharp pains on the back of my head/behind my right ear?

Ok, about an hour ago I fell off a chair and bumped the back of my head on the edge of this table type thing. Right as I hit I saw a very quick flicker of black before my eyes. I now have very sharp pains on the area which is on the back of my head and behind my right ear. Everytime I turn my head in any way the pain gets worse. When I turn my head the direction of the area the pain tightens even worse. When applying any pressure to it I also feel very sharp pains. I looked up some skull anatomys on Google and found out that the area that was hit might be one of the following 3.

Splenius Capitis
Semispinalis Capitis
Sternocleidomastoid Muscle

There was no bleeding after I hit my head, I don't really feel tired or light headed, I just feel really sharp pains.

Can someone please tell me what might have happened to the area of my head? The main thing I'm worried about is it causing me memory loss.

-Thanks.

Hi,

Hitting your head at a single point may lead to bruising or hematoma of the underlying skin or in severe cases it may involve deeper structures. In your case, this seems to be a superficial head injury( you have not mentioned any weakness, numbness or loss of consciousness). Have you had a skull radiograph done at least as a baseline?A CT scan of the cervical spine may also help rule out an underlying cervical spine injury.

The area of the injury may be swollen and inflamed and this may cause the sharp craniofacial  pains. Apply an ice pack over the area and  take pain medications for the pain. An initial consult with your primary physician will be able to guide you.

At this point, there seems to be no danger of memory loss. You have only hit your head a few hours ago and the symptoms of pain and tenderness are expected.

Observe for any persistent pain or pain increasing in severity. Also,in the presence of nausea and vomiting, an immediate consult is necessary.
