Almost Blacked Out???

So today, I was at achool and I went to the bathroom. After I flushed the toilet, I turned to unlock the door and my vision went completely black and I couldn't hear anything. When it stopped, I was turned a different way and my whole body was pulsating with my heartbeat and I went numb and I couldn't move. I had no idea what happened and I couldn't remember anything. I didn't fo to the nurse because I didn't think it was that serious. Maybe I blacked out but I was still standing. Or maybe I had a seizure, I don't know. Please hwlp because I am scared it will happen again. I ate before it happened. I am 15 also.

Not to scare you but it does sound like something you want to take care of. It does not sound like low blood sugar at ALL. Seems like you nearly fainted. If you had a blackout or something similar yes you would have fallen. It could have been a bad migraine. Sometimes you lose your vision temporarily. Get your eyes checked ok. And make sure your migraines aren't getting worse.
Also IF you do start to experience the same symptoms again try to quickly place yourself in a position that you will not fall and seriously hurt yourself if you do pass out. Such as quickly sitting down.

Maybe you would have dropped to the floor if you had blacked out a bit longer. Good that you are going back to your doctor though.

I was diagnosed with migraines without aura 2 years ago. I just got off of methylprednisolone for a rebound headache prior to this event. I have no other health issues and I'm supposed to go back to my doctor sometime soon. When I typed this, I forgot to mention that I did have a mild headache after the event. I kept asking myself what had just happened because I didn't remember anything. I remember my vision going black, though. If you do have a blackout, don't you drop to the floor? I didn't do that, but then again, I didn't remember. It happened near the end of the day so I just went home and slept it off.

Maybe you have low blood pressure.

The nervous system in your body that regulates your breathing and blood pressure etc is called the autonomic nervous system. It has two parts: the sympathetic system and the parasympathetic system. The sympathetic system is responsible for all your stress actions. If you need to fight a bear or run to the bus or stand up your sympathetic system does the job. It raises your blood pressure, pumps blood to your muscles etc. If you relax, eat, sleep etc it is your parasympathetic system that is at work.

When you sit on the toilette you are very relaxed. Then suddenly you stand up and the body needs to bring up the blood pressure to keep the blood flow to the head. Sometimes the body is not fast enough with this regulation. You had eaten before which means that some of your blood is occupied by going to the intestines and your parasympathetic system is very much at work.

That your body was pounding was probably because your heart was beating very hard to pump the blood to your head. The black out is from the blood not reaching the head for a brief moment.

What you can do is to stand up more slowly or gradually in the future. Especially those times when you are very relaxed.

You might also be a bit anemic (low on blood), which is quite common. This is a common cause of low blood pressure. Go to your doctor and take some blood tests and measure your blood pressure both sitting down and standing up and your doctor should have some good ideas about what is going on. It is probably nothing dangerous as long as you don't fall and hurt yourself.

It could also be a small seizure. But if I would guess I would say a drop in blood pressure. Your body was just relaxed and not prepared for suddenly standing up like that. That's what I think happened. But talk to your doctor!

Take care!

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community.

Why would you think it isn't serous enough to go to the nurse if you are worried?
Did you tell your parents? You didn't mention a headache so, I am not sure you are on the right community. It is possible that it was a drop in blood sugar but, I would definitely tell your parents and consider seeing a doctor!!
