Aneurysm & Migraines

by lisafirenze, May 05, 2008 03:41PM
For the past few years I have been having something called eye migraine where my vision gets blurred and I feel that I cannot see straight.  It only happens maybe once a year.  A few weeks ago it happened in the morning and felt dizzy too.  It then happened another 2 times that same day.  I felt wiped out by the time I got home that I slept.  I did not very much and felt a bit of nausea.  Should I seek further medical attention for this.  The other part to this questioning is if there is any corealation between this and brain aneurysms?  My aunt recenlt passed away at age 50 of a brain aneurysms and her 2 cousins (also my aunts) also have passed from the same thing?  My aunt who died about 3 years ago is my dad's sister.

Hi Lisa,
I have had migraines for years with same symptoms.  They have progressed to what they called complex migraines  that act like TIA's.  They have done numerous MRI/MRA with contrast and found that I had Fibromuscular Dysplasia or FMD in the vertebrals and carotids that complicate the symptoms of migraines and a tiny aneurysm that would not benefit from surgery (tiny tiny) .  Strokes run in my family too.  Have your neurologist get you an MRI/MRA with contrast.  Knowledge is power.  Be proactive...take charge.  Yes, I would seek more medical attention with a neurologist and if you don't like that neurologist...change until you find one you like.  Make sure to find out your results and go over report with your physician.  Rule out the worst and feel better about the stuff you can manage.  I am sorry you are going through this and hope you have a great support group with family and friends.  Stay talking!

Hi,

Is the blurring of vision associated with headaches? If yes, are they usually associated with headaches or do they occur without headaches?

This may be a migraine headache with aura. However, without proper assessment a diagnosis of migraine headaches should not be given until other conditions which may present with similar symptoms have been ruled out.

You have noted this only once a year. Migraine headaches are expected to occur more than this. A consult with a neurologist is warranted taking into consideration a strong family history of cranial aneurysms. A baseline cranial CT scan will help.

I have had Fibromuscular dysplasia in the renal arteries and have had ct and mri's to rule out coridid I am afriad that there is something wrong also but, no dr. has been able to find anything so far. I hope someone has some answers soon. I know this is not answering your question just letting you know that I feel for you as I have the same issues. Good luck and let me know if you find anything out.
