Aura Mirgraines?!

Aura Mirgraines?!

I have always gotten incredibly bad migraines, since I was a baby. I started getting Aura migraines in sixth grade. Loss of vision for about 30 minutes and then a horrific migraine that lasts days, followed by sensitive eyes. I wen't to a few different doctors. Including ophthalmologists, optometrists, and neurologists. Had an EEG, MRI's and MRA's. Only to find a microadenoma on my pituitary stalk. I never followed up with my neurologist, since I moved,  so I haven't gotten any medication for my aura migraines. I hope to see a new neurologist soon. I've noticed, I only get aura migraines, when im on the computer, and I don’t wear my glasses. I have glasses with the special protective lenses, or something.  They really have helped me reduce my migraines. I would still love to have mediciation, just in case im driving and I don’t lose my vision. I was wondering if anyone here gets these migraines too? When I was younger, it seemed like aura migraines were unheard of. Doctors thought I was nuts, and they thought I was making it up. It was very frightening. Before I have an aura migraine, I feel very weird. About a minute before, I feel that something is off. Then I notice my vision going and I have to spend a day or two in bed, to sleep of the horrific migraine. During the vision loss, my memory is a little off, talking is a little harder, and I am just out of it. As if I was drugged up. A day or two after my eyes are very sensitive. But a day or two after that, i'm back to normal. It's strange but im so used to it now. I used to have aura migraines 2-3 times a week, and now I have them 1 every few months.

Are these symptoms normal? Does anyone else here suffer from these? I would love to hear some experiences from other people!

You're not alone, but I didn't start getting mine till I was in college. I used to only get one every four or five years, but then I had a whole bunch last year. I'm lucky because I don't get the headache. I just get weird anxiety feelings, sometimes start smelling things (like burning wood), become hypersensitive to touch (like I can feel every inch of my clothes touching my body), and tingly ears and hands. After a day or two of this, I then get the 30-minutes of vision loss, but no headache follows. I get just a weird "floaty head" feeling, and then it's over, but I'm still very sensitive to light for a day or two like you described. I notice the vision loss coming on almost always because I'll be reading on the computer and things will just begin getting "weird" in how I'm reading, and then I'll notice that I'm not seeing part of the text at all.

What seems to be working for me is as soon as I feel the "anxiety" coming on, I take half a pill of clonazepam and check my blood pressure. If it's over 120/80, then I take a propranolol too. I do this for about 3-4 days, and it seems to be working. I haven't had any more loss of vision and the anxiety is completely removed (no more tingling, weird sensations, etc.), so I've been migraine-free for about four months now.
