Back of the head headache

by KC11575, Jun 25, 2008 07:11PM
I have had a headache for several days that started in the back left of my head. It has been moving all over my head since then. It feels like a lot of pressure and has the sensation of "brain swelling". I can even feel little twitches in my head and lots of stress in the back of my head and upper neck. I do not have flashes of light or nausea. However, I do have short term memory loss "hurts to think" and can't remember simple words, and no sense of taste. I am fine with light but sounds feel sensitive. The pain is un-touched by tylenol (I am allergic to aspirin). I did have my blood pressure taken today and it was 120/100. When doulble-checking my symptoms, I did not have similarities to migraines or tension headaches.

Hello Dear,
Your symptoms seem to be of  complicated migraine.
Complicated migraines are those in which migraine attacks are accompanied by persistent neurologic deficits, such as paralysis
Complicated migraine headaches occur with focal neurological dysfunction such as hemiplegia, vertigo, or hemisensory loss
Calcium blockers and anti-epileptic drugs seem to be best for prevention .NSAIDs or prochlorperazine are gien for acute attacks.
Patients with severe headaches need subcutaneous, intravenous, or oral formulations of these drugs. Patients with severe nausea and vomiting at the onset of an attack may respond best to intravenous prochlorperazine
Neurologic deficits get treatment of complicated migraines. cleared immediately after the administration of sublingual nifedipine. Nifedipine may prove useful in
You should consult your neurologist  and get an MRI done to rile out any other cause and discuss regarding these treatment options.
