I am dealing with the same thing. I had my baby boy Sept 2014. They discharged me from the hospital with the excruciating head aches and it felt like I had a hole in my spine. 3 1/2 months later and several er trips, xrays, and CT scans later they finally performed the blood patch. The headaches and lethargy stopped immediately however, I am still unable to pick my 4 month baby up or work out at the gym like I want to. I had the blood patch on new years ever 2014 it is now almost February 2015 and the lower back pain is so intense its almost unbearable especially in the mornings. The hospitals just treat me like a junkie trying to get a fix which they couldn't be more wrong. I have three sons, a home, and a great career that I need to take care of and handle on a daily basis and it just isn't letting up. If anyone has any advise on what my options are please let me know. I am at my witts end with the pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi,
How are you? Immediate relief of the headache may be felt after a blood patch. However, anything that increases your intra-abdominal pressure increase pressure in the spinal sac and may possibly prevent proper healing. Patients with pre-existing degenerative disease in the spine can also have an exacerbation of symptoms such as increased back pain and leg pain. These symptoms may also resolve within a few hours. If it persists, inform your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
