Basilar Migraines?or do i have something else?

by kellenleah, Oct 08, 2008 02:27PM
i was diagnosed with Basilar Migraines a few years ago. i was having seziors and it took a very long time to diagnose that. after time it went away, i've had a head ache here and there but nothing serious till lately.
2 months ago i started having headaches. they always came in the morning and went away by mid day. then they started getting worse and one month ago started to be migraines. always started in the morning but each day lasted longer and longer. i have them now everyday, and have for a month. i have lost my job because of missed work
i feel just awful i guess is the best way to tell how i feel, my head hurts only on the right side and sometimes it hurts in my migraine center but other times it is right side above my forehead. i've been very "out of it" when driving someone will tell me to go right and i go left. just today i was planning on going to the store and ended up back in my driveway. i can't function well like this. my psychiatrist wants me to go to my nuro, so i got an appointment... for Feb. that was the earliest. i can't take this anymore. i need help now not in feb.
i don't feel like it is the basilar migraines where it has lasted this long, could this be something else?

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Any migraine headache which lasts for more than 72 hrs is known as status migranosus.
Is your headache continuous or does it get relieved for some time?
You are suffering from what seems very likely is migraine headache. There is a possibility that this is chronic migraine. It is very important to break this cycle of headache. Medications like Topamax are very effective in chronic headaches. If you are not able to see a neurologist any time soon I would advise you to consult a headache or Migraine specialist in your area as soon as possible.
Meanwhile do some breathing exercises everyday, eat right and sleep for at least 8 hrs.
Take care!
