Beta blockers and weight gain

Hi

I have just been prescribed half-beta prograne to treat the anxiety which triggers my migraines.

I have read on a website site that it can inhibit the effective of the co-enzyme q-10 and therefore induce weight gain as this can slow down the metabolism.  is this true? if so how does it work?

can i take supplements to prevent weight gain?

thanks for any help, id really appreciate it

love em xxxxxx

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Weight gain can occur as a side effect of some beta blockers. The weight gain is anywhere between 2-4 pounds. It is true that weight gain is due to slowing of metabolism.
The exact underlying mechanism of weight gain is not clearly understood. It is important that you remain as physically active as possible when taking beta blockers. Weight loss supplements should be taken with caution and only after discussing with your doctor as sometimes they cause more harm than good.
Hope this helps!
