Can 1 IV dose of Prednisone cause insomnia?

Hi- I had a bad migraine/sinus pain pressure since New Years Eve and none of my usual migraine prescriptions were helping at all so I went to my doctor's headache clinic today/yesterday afternoon. At the end of an IV of fluid, an anti-inflammatory drug and possibly another drug, I was given an dose of prednisone through the IV. After an hour or so I felt great but now it is almost 5am and I still cannot sleep after taking a hot bath with Epsom salt and laying in bed for the last 5 hours. Is sleeplessness common?  How long will it last from one only one dose? I felt like super woman earlier but now I just want to go to sleep.

I'm traditionally sensitive to medicine and increased my dose of nortriptilyn (sp?) I'm on as a preventative migraine medicine from 10mg to 20mg hoping it would help me sleep. No such luck.

Thanking you in advance for comments/suggestions.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
HI,
How are you? One of prednisone's side effects may indeed include difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. Once the medicine is out of the system, the symptoms usually resolve.  The duration may last from 1-2 days and the time it takes may also depend on a variety of factors such as the condition present, how well you tolerate the drug or  the medical history of the patient. There are other symptoms associated with this medicine such as those found in this link:  http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a601102.html#side-effects.
Take care and do keep us posted.

I took one 50 mg dose of prednisone this morning and am laying awake at 2 am. This is after using breathing techniques that normally have me sleeping in 20 minutes.  I'm supposed to take it for 5 days--but I 'm going to stop. I don't know if it's made the tinnitus worse or if I'm just more aware of it since I'm awake in a quiet room!
