Can exertion headaches be avoided?

Can exertion headaches be avoided?

I suffered from my first exertion headache about 5 years ago while weight lifting. Several years went by and then another. However, within the past several months I've had 3 and they take a while to go away. From what I understand they are somewhat related to tension around the upperback, shoulder, and neck area. Is there any breathing, stretching, and/or exercising that I can do to avoid these?
