Can years of migraines be caused after a stroke?

And if so, mine have been daily 24/7 for the past 3 years and are often severe.  They bother me most when they occur just over one or both eyes, but also are in the back and sides of my head.  Will they ever get better like you recover more function gradually after a stroke?  

Nerve block injections every 4 weeks and Botox injections every 8 weeks are not working as well as they used to, but do help.  I've tried all kinds of prophylactic meds which either didn't work or had bad side effects.  I've tried accupunture and meditation.  Now trying a butterbur herbal remedy.

I had a carotid artery dissection at age 58 which came on full force about 3 weeks after I suddenly had distinctly different headaches than I had ever experienced before.  It was sometime around the time that I bumped my head in the doorway one night.  Don't know the exact timing. It could have led to the kind of stroke that I had which are usually caused by a physical trauma.  My neurologist thinks the stroke was the cause.  Do you agree with him?

I would also be interested in whether other people have had an experience of severe migraines for years after their stroke and does it ever get any better?

I'm not really sure, but I know that people with migraine disorder are at higher risk for TIA's or strokes than people without migraines.  So, it seems like a reasonable conclusion to me that after having a stroke that a person might have these migraines, even if the person didn't have migraines prior to the stroke.

As for knowing what will make the migraines better, I'm still working on figuring this stuff out myself, so I'm not really sure about that one.
