Could this be from Migraine/confused?

Hi there,
I do suffer from my migraines that cause numbness in my face, sometimes droopy eyelids, twitching, shimmering of my vision etc. etc.

At the moment I have had the worst burning in my leg, from my knee down on my left leg, it feels like I have submerged it in hot water, it's like a real hot rush, it is in the same spot and it is occuring most of the day every day for the last few weeks, it's like I get a hot rush, it is unpleasant burning sensation. it goes down my calf and the side area and often down into my foot and toes.

Has anyone else experienced this?  The only reason why I thought it could be migraine related was that I am getting a banding feeling around my whole head, not painful but it feels weird and also some bolt like pain that hits the top of my head, almost like someone has set off a bullet that shoots to the top of my head, then it's gone.  Like bolts of lightining, I don't actually have a headache but I have had in the last few weeks my twitching of my eye and some numbness in the eye area again, I am trying to work out if the leg thing is related to the face stuff. It seems to happen when I walk, every step I take I get the burning.

Any ideas?  I am on Atenolol for migraine, but I have only been on it for a few months and my dr told me I needed to be on it for 3mths before I would know if it works, at this stage it is not working.

Cheers,
Udkas.

Hi,
There are indeed plenty of medications for migraine in the market today. It may even take a few tries to determine the best medicine for you. It is good though that the recent MRI was fine. Aside from medicines, you can also  try alternative and complementary medicine such as biofeedback therapy and other relaxation techniques. Talk to your doctor about this also. Take care always.

Thank you for your advice.  I plan to schedule an appointment with my GP in the near future to look at changing my migraine medication.  The pharmacist said that medication I am no is no longer used to treat migraines and that there is better ones out there.

I just want some relief both from the headache, but more so the aura's.  I have kept a diary of triggers etc. but nothing seems to trigger them apart from sometimes changes in the weather.  At the moment my tongue keeps going numb with pain underneath on movement and I get stabby type pains in my head.  I have had a brain MRI recently and it was normal, not even any migraine type lesions.  Nothing at all to report.

Thanks again.
Udkas.

Hi,
Thank you for the update. To prevent them from recurring, both preventive and abortive medications for migraine may help. Identification of the migraine triggers may also help prevent any recurrences. The migraine tracker here in the forum and a headache journal may help. Talk to your doctor about these prescription medications for proper management. Take care and regards.

Hi,
I just wanted to say thank you for your comments and answering my question.  I have still had no joy with the migraine medication but I will give the medication a bit longer and if it doesn't work I will go back to my GP.

I do think my migraines are hormonal related as I am peri menopausal and aged 45.  I just wish I wouldn't get all these stroke like symptoms as they scare the jeebies out of me.

My burning has settled down for the moment.

Thank you,

Regards,
Udkas.

Hi,
How are you? There are several rare migraine variants which may present with neurological auras. Hemiplegic migraine may present with temporary paralysis, numbness, dizziness or vision changes. While in basilar artery migraine dizziness, confusion or loss of balance can precede the headache. The headache pain may also affect the back of the head. This type of migraine is strongly related to hormonal changes especially with young adult women. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor or be referred to a neurologist for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
