Hair loss and topamax

I have been on 200mg of topamax for 5-6 months now. They worked inredibly well for my migraines and I am grateful for the medication. In the last couple of months I started to notice some hair loss. At first it was not that bad, the pros of the medication outweighed the cons, but now my hair has started to fall out in chunks. I used to have very long thick curly hair. When I brush my hair it comes out in huge chunks...It used to take me an hour 1/2 to straighten my hair. Now my hair only takes 25-30 min to straighten.
I dont want to get migraines again, because they were severe, but I dont want to be bald. Im only 22!
I called my neurologist and he said topamax does not cause hair loss but I have not changed anything else in my life. I have not even lost any weight from the drug. He suggested that it was my thyroid.
Has anyone else seen hair loss from the drug and had their md dismiss their concerns?

i was on topamax and it was horrible for me. i lost 2 much weight. your doc should have checked your thyroid befor putting u on that drug because it could have been the cause of your headaced. did u check your thyroid before getting on the drug? thyroid gland can cause problems like headache and hair loss and other symptoms.

Yes!!  I have had a lot of hairloss since starting topamax!
