Headache

by karensdaughter, Sep 16, 2007 12:51AM
My mom has had a severe headache for almost 3 years now and has been to several specialists but no one has been able to help. She has had surgeries for severe sinus trouble and also she broke a tooth around the same time that this headache started. She feels that the tooth or a trigeminal nerve may be the problem but she hasn't found any doctors to back that up. She went to this one doctor a couple of days ago, that mentioned that some of the nerves that were cut during one of her surgeries may have grown back and is going wild but I am unable to find any info on that particular subject. This headache is not sensitive to light or noise and it NEVER goes away. She is able to get just a tiny bit of relief by taking so much pain meds that she doesn't really know that she's even alive but she doesn't do that very often because she doesn't want to have a "rebound" headache on top of everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We live in Louisiana so if u are able to suggest any fairly close headache or pain doctors, we would definitely look into it. Thank you and God bless.

Hi.

When your mother broke her tooth, was the whole tooth knocked loose or was some part left behind. If there was a piece of the tooth left behind, it is possible that it could be causing the headache.

How exactly does your mother describe the headaches? Are they sharp, constricting, throbbing, or dull? What part of the head does she feel the headaches? Are there any other symptoms that she experiences?

It is also possible that the pain can be due to trigeminal neuralgia if the pain is electric shock-like in quality.

If there is still a piece of a tooth left behind, you should probably bring your mother to a dentist. If there isn't, a consult with a neurologist would be advisable.

Hope this helps.
