Hi,
Was there any previous trauma to your head and neck? This could be due to musculoskeletal or neurological causes. I also recommend that you have this evaluated further by your doctor for proper diagnosis. Your medical history and some tests like a CT scan may help rule out any structural problems. Take care and do keep us posted.
Hi bell1982,
Since you mentioned your neck feeling sore and like it was on fire, I wanted to let you know that if you at all have a very stiff neck (you cannot bend your chin in the direction of your chest and you cannot look up at the ceiling) and/or a fever (higher than 103F) with your headache, to please seek immediate medical attention as this could be a sign of a severe infection.
Since I am not a doctor I cannot diagnose you, nor do I believe anyone can really diagnose anyone online, so I believe that if you are concerned with your symptoms that you should see a doctor, yes.
I think that if your headache is severe and you have had it for two weeks, then you should be seen by a doctor immediately, so if your headache is severe then make an appointment with your doctor for today or go to a walk-in clinic today. I think that if you've had moderate headaches that has lasted for more than 12 hours at any point during this two week time period, then you should call your doctor today and make an appointment for as soon as possible or go to a walk-in clinic. I think that if you've had mild headaches for two weeks then you should call your doctor and make an appointment since the headaches have not improved with home-treatment. In my opinion, I would not wait more than two weeks for the appointment.
It could be a migraine headache since you are sensitive to light and sound, although migraine headaches are less likely to involve neck pain. My migraine headaches involve neck pain and I know a few other people on the forum whose migraines involve neck pain, but that is not as common. So, since it does not exactly fit the pattern of migraine, I'd go see a doctor. Also, if it turns out to be a migraine you would need a prescription for migraine medication from a doctor anyway, so it's best to go to a doctor for a diagnosis because you'll end up needing a prescription in the long run regardless.
Hope that information helps!
