Help with Depakote ER

by headacheabcs, Dec 01, 2007 09:26AM
I have suffered from migraines since I was about 15. I am now 42. My treatment is Depakote ER 1000mg daily. When I get a migraine I take Advil to help out with it. I've been taking Depakote (at this dose) since I was 30. We thought my migraines were coming from hormones. Three years ago I had a full hysterectomy/opharectamy (female issues). The headaches got better for a while then went back to being the same. I have taken .50 Estradiol since my hysterectomy. Recently, my headaches have started getting worse. I have always had serious dizziness with my headaches. It comes previous to any sign of a migraine (migraine syndrome). The headaches I am getting now are bilateral with pain in my eyes as well. I have no allergies. My thought process had been very disoriented for about two weeks and balance is a issue. Should I be really concerned or maybe my meds need changing?

I have harmone headaches and am age 43 - battling with that hysterectomy question.  I'd get one in a second if it would work.  My ob says she's afraid I'd have a stroke.  Not a doctor but your headaches are still well with Migraine parameters.  If depakote helped, you could go back on that - duh, I know you already know this - have you thought of Topomax (topamax).  It is another anti-epileptic that has had really good results with some.  Didn't do a thing for me but I know depakote can make you gain weight - Topomax (topamax) will make you lose a few pounds.  Just food for thought.

Hi,
I would suggest that you get your blood pressure checked. Also it could be acute sinusitis. Please try steam inhalation and OTC antihistaminics and see if it helps. Also please consult your physician.
