Help!

Hi, I am a new member. I have read posts but need my own answers. I  am a teen. I started having migraine sypromns when I was 12. I have blackouts. My two EEGs came back normal. The second one had a normal background which ruled out epilepsy. I do not always get an aura and if I do I do not always have a migraine. I get nausea but have never thrown up. I see black spots in my vision and my whole body hurts. I am currently on keppra, concerta, and clomapazapam!!! My nureologist says I have atypical migraines buti am not so sure. Please write suggestions. Thanks in advance!!

Hi, Well I got my migraine variant when I was 23 and it took them 8 years to diagnose me because I would not get a migraine headache or aura but would get throwing up and abdominal pain when I went to bed. I finally found a doctor that said I had a migriane variant and he did an EEG which was abnormal for a migraine/seizure pattern. They can't differentiate it because it was just high signal. I was put on Clonozepam and I am now 50  and haven't had one of these types of migraines since. However, once you go on clonozepam (klonopin) you can't get off of it or it will take a long long time which I can explain if you want me to. In my 30's I got migriane headaches and aura, sometimes aura only or both or just migraine. So I was put on Imitrex. This has helped a lot with the pain. But you can't take it more than twice a week or you get rebound migraine. This year I have started to get a lot of visuals, double vision, vertigo that comes on suddenly and I fall, part of my vision was black out for about 30 seconds and flying yellow lights in addition to the migraine headaches. So, now they have put me on Cyproheptadine, and that didn't cut out the vertigo, then amitriptilyne and so far I gained a couple of pounds and have some trouble with short term memory but I the number of migraine headaches is the same but I don't know about the vertigo yet. So, they are going to try also Topamax but I am worried about the side effects. Let me know if this helped. I still don't know what kind of migraine. It may be basilary.
take care,

If you have had an MRI and it came back clear, have you looked at food triggers? I cannot have gluten, dairy, certain nuts, high fructose corn syrup, any artificial sweetener, nitrates/nitrites, msg, over ripe banana's, and must limit my caffeine intake.

Also has anyone looked at your thyroid, or the possibility of endometriosis? I know my endo is back when my migraines get more frequent and intense.

I hope this helps,

Hi....I am wondering have u ever had a brain MRI?

Were u ever in a MVA or fall as a child that may have brought ur symptoms to  increase?

There are many reasons one can have HA's and they r not all migraines, but many times we can go yrs with that dx....do ask ur Drs more questions and push for answers that is where u will find them.
