How Can I Get Rid Of Migraines Completely?

I have been to a Neorologist and given Topomax and did nothing for me and my migraines or headaches. My Internal doctor is treating me now because my Neorologist said he had done all he could. I am still have terrible headaches or migraines. I hurt mostly on my left side. I have them everyday and I can't bear the pain. I can't go to the hospital everyday so my dr. has given me Loritab to take when I have one. Well, I have one every day. What should I do? I'm at my wits end. I need to be out hunting for a job because I need one. How can I do that? Please help me!!! I've also taken all the migraine medicines and they don't work. I didn't know what topic of headaches to put down.

I have had migraines for 7 years, consistently once a week for at least 48 hours. The only medication that seems to work is Frova, and it is hit and miss. I've tried tracking my migraines and have found very few triggers. I really hate taking pain pills because they seem to give me rebound headaches, and nausea. Just recently I have found that ginger really helps with my migraines and also nausea. I try to eat some everyday and especially if I feel a migraine coming on. Here is my favorite recipe for crystallized ginger: http://homecooking.about.com/od/dessertrecipes/ht/crystalginger.htm

Hope this helps!

Try just fresh fruits, veggies, and meats.  Leave out bread, pasta (anything with wheat in it) and dairy.  See if that helps.  Oh, and wheat is in just about everything but fresh fruits, veggies and meats....so you will have to watch labels. You should notice an improvement in a week if wheat is the problem.  That isn't too long to give it a run?
Best of luck, I have status migraines that I am on topamax for and darvocet as needed. Maxalt didn't work for me and they don't like to give narcotics for migraines because they say they cause rebound headaches, but when that is all that works....

I am now on depakote and maxalt for migraines and nothing completely gets rid of them.  A friend is really into the holistic approach and suggested crystallized ginger.  I recently tried it and it seems to be working.  I am giving it more time but hope it continues.

I have had migraines for over 20 years (I'm 32)....I take Fiorinal as needed and it works well.  I can sympathize with you and the lack of direction....I had a wonderful neurologist and we had a whole set up of what I should take and when and she closed her practice and I was moved to a new place and they wouldn't give me the meds!  This, after 9 years of being treated with them.  She "didn't believe those really work..." Now I am back to guinea pig status and have tried 4 new meds with no avail.  The Fiorinal is a oldie I've used for years as needed.

Since I don't have a food that triggers my headaches what else do you suggest? At this point I will try anything even try to stand on my head!! I just know if it keeps going on everyday I don't know what I will do. I have a low pain tolerance and this is really getting to my nerves and I should be able to go out and look for a job but I can't. Soneone should be able to help me. If they can find a cure for all these other thing surely they could find one for migraines!!!!  Right now there's only pail pills.

I have IBS and I have to watch what I eat also. I do not eat processed meat, cheese, Chinese food and chocolates. The only thing I do is drink half and half coffee. Meaning it's part caffiene and part decaff. I have 2 cups and that's it. I have my headaches much earlier than that. I'm not sure where to go around here to get biofeedback but I will try the magnesium supplements.
Thanks so much for answering my question. It would be a miracle drug if someone found a cure for migraines and headaches!!

Hi,

How are you?
Have you been able to identify a trigger for your migraine attacks?
Most of the migraine attacks are triggered by caffeine, processed meats, red wine, aged cheeses, Chinese food, chocolates, direct sunlight and noise.
The best treatment of migraine is identification and avoidance of trigger.
I would also suggest you to try magnesium supplements and biofeedback therapy both of which have shown good results in preventing migraine attacks. Take care!

i've also been researching remedies for migraines and have come across something interesting.  ask your doctor about a magnesium supplement.  i've read a lot about the link between magnesium deficiency and migraines.  it might not work for acute attacks, but discuss with doc about long term benefits.  hope it helps, good luck.
