I know how you feel. I just made my account today. I am spending most of my time on the computer to figure out what in the *** is wrong with me. I have been sick with headaches for going on my 3rd month. It is really affecting my life. I was off work for the summer, when the headaches started and I basically spent most of the summer miserable barely able to get off the couch. The good news was that when I finally got diagnosed with migraines, the migraine medicine, Immitrex, worked. The problem was that the headache kept coming back (only a matter of a day or so). I have been working with a neurologist for about a month now and still no "cure" . I have been getting the headaches almost every day. Unfortunately, now my headache has changed into a pressure feeling that is terrible. and the migraine medicine dosent work for this! I am hoping and literally praying for a cure... I want my old life back!!
Have you tried any other preventatives? Also, have you tried a steroid treatment for a week? My doctor has just put me on this. I tried noritriptylene and it just seemed to make my headache worse. But I have heard that there are a ton of medicines that can prevent migraines. My friend takes a beta blocker for hers and it works well. I guess we all have to just hope that we find something that works for us. I have heard that headache/migraine treatment is a lot of trial and error. Good luck and please let me know if you find something that works for you.
Hi! I understand how you are feeling. I am blessed that I live close enough to Pittsburgh where they have a headache center. They have neurologists who only treat headaches. They do not prescribe any narcotic meds at all. They focus mostly on prevention. Has your doc tried to put you on any preventative meds (i.e. Topamax, Verapamil, etc.)? These are meds that can help reduce the number and the severity of your migraines. Have you been to a neurologist or are you just going to a family doc? I would suggest that you get a referral to a neurologist for a full workup. They also may give you an abortive med like Imitrex or Zomig or something like that. Have you watched your diet to find any triggers? I haven't found any dietary triggers for mine, but I know many people who do. I have been also told to drink some caffeine when I feel like I am getting one or have one. I have to be careful not to drink too much because that can worsen one for me. The whole treatment process for migraines is trial and error. I know that it can be a long and tedious process. But if you can find a doctor who is willing to work with you to try different options until you find something that works then it will definitely be worth it. Hope this info helps. Kayleen
