I can't take this pain anymore

I been suffering way too much and i'm too young for this...
I was taking imitrex practically everyday I went to a good neurologist and he told me to stop the imitrex because it's like a cycle my body knows i'm going to take the imitrex and my migraines are used to taking it so the cycle needs to be broken.  He said once I stop doing that my migraines will subside.  He gave me a a much milder drug to take when I get a migraine I forget the name.  I went to him on Thursday and already had taken 3 of these pills.  He also put me on topamax now when exactly does it start working?  They gave me 8 nerve block injections in my neck and forhead where I get my migraines.  I get severe pain in my neck!!!!!!!!  I need something done about this I know I have 2 herniated discs but I need an updated MRI or CT because somethign is def going on in my neck causing these migraines... i'm desperate

Hi,

Yes cervical spine issues especially those of the lower cervical spine do exacerbate migraine headaches.

Make sure you continue with the cervical collar and f possible do gentle neck exercises also. Take care!

Hi Dr. Thanks for answering my question.  I had an MRI of the brain, sinuses and now all they need is the neck.  Yetserday I went to the ER and they gave me an xray which shower I have more than normal movement of the vertibrai when looking up so I am going to a spince specialist next week to get an MRI done to look further into the nerves and/or other issues.  They did give me a collar for my neck and some percocets in the meantime which the collar is actually giving me some relief.  I def. know these headahces are due to my neck.  I get the migraine in one spot of my head and that is over my eyebrow

Hi,

Hope you are feeling better.
Yes it is important to get an MRI or CT scan of the head and neck done to know the extent of disc herniation. In the meantime I would suggest you to wear a cervical collar, take rest, and apply ice packs to the affected part of neck. Do not bend your neck and if possible do some gentle neck exercises. It is quite possible that your headaches are related to pain in the neck.
Topamax does take some time to show its effect. It is supposed to be a very good drug for migraine prophylaxis.
Take care!
