Ice Pick Headaches- - PLEASE HELP

by cjmackin, Feb 13, 2009 10:57AM
I am 27 years old, in great shape with the exception of slightly elevated blodd pressure, I exercise and eat fairly healthy.  But, last year, around May, I started getting intense, sharp pains in my right temple that last for a couple of seconds then go away.  I put up with the pain for a few months then went to the doctor who ordered an MRI/MRA.  Those test come back clean.  He was stumped, couldn't figure out what they could be.  During the winter months, the headaches seem to subside a little, occurring less frequently. However, for the past couple of weeks, the weatehr has been nicer/warmer and I seem to be having htem more and more.  I personally believe that the headaches are sinus related...but I have not ever been an allergy/sinus issue sufferer before.  I don't know what to do from here.  Everything I have read has pointed that these headaches are called ice pick headaches, and there doesn't seem to be any cure for them..they say sometimes they go away on their own, sometimes you just deal with them for the rest of your life.  I need a fix... something other than NSAIDS/ibprofun it causes stomach issues for me.  Thnaks.

You don't think there is any link between the headaches and a sinus issue? I also could see a link between the neck and the pain...because during the couple of seconds of the attack, pressure to the back of the neck, near the spine, seems to help.  Thanks for your help, if anyone else has any suggestions...other than NSAIDS, which don't seem to help much and they disturb my stomach...they would be greatly appreciated.
