Medication Overused Headache and addiction to Tramadol

by rafakenobi, Mar 31, 2009 11:37AM
Hello, I have been diagnosed with Migraine 5 years ago and none of the treatments has helped me, in fact they were worse and with addition I had chronic fatigue that was caused because of hypothyroidism and lack of testosterone. Fortunately the doctors fix those with the proper medication but the Migraine endures, resulting in Medication Overused Headache and addiction to Tramadol. I began to lower the doses which were on 150 – 200 mg a day and now I’m on 20 mg a day that is quite an accomplishment but the withdrawal symptoms are overtaking me. Is there a way I stop taking Tramadol at last and not to feel the withdrawal symptoms? I appreciate if you can help me.

Hi,

The withdrawal symptoms of tramadol depend upon the duration of use and the dose. If the drug was taken in high dosages over prolonged period of time then the withdrawal symptoms are usually severe.
There is a medication known as Buprenorphine which is often used in Tramadol withdrawal to reduce the withdrawal symptoms.
Also it is important to keep in the mind that withdrawal should always be done gradually and under supervision of the prescribing doctor.

Thanks
