Migraine Cycle again

by Gyps, Oct 08, 2007 08:13PM
I have been on the very lowest dose of Topamax 25 mg for quite some time but at times I have cycles of migraines where I have to increase the dosage.  In July I began having bad shoulder pain, then has moved into my elbow area.  No problem there after a MRI have found to have 2 broad based bulging disc and another osteophyte in the C4-C5 area.  Had cervical fusion just below that several years ago.  Could the migraine cycle am in now be from the disc problem?  The increasing dosage has not even phased my daily headaches.  While they don't put me in the bed but are severe over my left eye down to the temple area enought to spike my bp up some.
Since have not heard from the first neuro dr my doctor I work for is calling tomorrow for me an appt about my neck.  Physical therapy and medrol dose pak did not resolve anything.

Hi,

You can consult your doctor about switching to another drug for your migraine. At the same time I would suggest you to try supplemental magnesium, it is known to be very effective in controlling migraine headaches.Good luck!

Hi,
You should prevent all the trigerring factors for your migraine. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Adequate sleep and plenty of fluids are important. Try breathing exercises and yoga. Topamax or topiramate is used to prevent migraine headaches. Topamax will only prevent migraine headaches or reduce the number of attacks. It will not treat a headache that has already begun for which you will need to take the conventional painkillers. Ask your doctor about this and see if he prescibes any other medication. You also need to see that blood pressure is under control
