Migraine and MRI

I am a 27 year-old female. I typically get 1 or 2 Migraines a month just last week I got one that lasted longer than it usually does in which the doctor gave me a shot to alliveviate the pain. The next day I started with another one and it continued. Tommorrow will be a week that I have been getting since I started with the Migraines. The doctor started me on the Topamax and right now my eyes are still slightly sensitive to light and very loud noise like screaming kids and echos in buildings. My doctor scheduled me for an MRI. I have never had an MRI done before and my doctor said there is nothing to it. But will anything come out as far as evidence of migraines and if so what might some recommendations be. I am just a little nervous I have never had the migraines and symptoms this long. For sure i know I am under a lot of stress at work and more than likely it may be a contributing factor.

I have recently been experiencing the same thing as you describe. I developed migraines over 4 months ago and sometimes my head is crushingly painful for days, mostly up the back of my neck. I went for an MRI scan and it came back clear. They were hoping to find a problem with my sinuses as browneyedmama describes, as this is treatable, but they found nothing strange. They have told me they beleive it is stress related. I have had a lot of stress at work recently but i usually cope quite well with presuure. I guess there comes a time when your body needs some time out.

As for getting an MRI - it really is an easy process. Dont be anxious about it. And think how releived you will feel when it comes back clear. You just lie on a cushiony little bed while they put you into the machine for 15 mins. They talk to you the whole way through, you get to listen to music, and you get a panic button so you can ask to be brought out at anytime. Dont worry about it.

Browneyedmama - great advice on the Reiki. I'm going to give it a try!

Good luck pinkrose

Hi,

I have had migranes since I was three years old, when I was in my teens I had a cat scan and MRI all came back normal, I am now 31 years old and believe it or not I have found something that works, you have to open minded, I was unsure and didn't believe in this to start with but I was willing to try anything, I was given the number of a guy who did reiki, I went in with a migrane that was at day 3, I took no tablets as I wanted to see if it really worked, I was only in there 1 hour and walked out of there pain free and did not get another migrane for 8 months, I am now going to go every 6 months to prevent them, I know not everyine will believe and you have to find someone that is good as not everyone can perform true reiki, but if you can find one keep them.

Regards

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,

Your doctor wants to be as thorough as possible in managing your case. I know you are highly anxious about this but your case sounds like the typical migraine headache.

Studies have shown that in persons with migraine some findings in the white matter
( brain tissue) may be seen. But this is not specific for migraines nor do they really indicate anything.Findings such as these in the MRI may simply tell you that this is more likely to be migraine in the absence of other conditions.

Continue your medications as directed by your physician.

I know you are very worried.Let us hope that everything will turn out well.

Keep us posted.

hi there... i too am 27 years old and suffer from migraines. i've had them since i was too young to remember. i was on topomax as well SEVERAL other medications that never seemed to work for me. i had an MRI done and everything turned out fine. i used to get 2-3 migraines A WEEK!!  i would have to go to the hospital once a week for in injection of demerol, or morphine. and now they dont give injections any more... you have to sit in emergency and get an iv. so you sit there for 2-5 hours depending on how busy the ER is... and get medicated. i cant remember the name of the medication they give you... i should know it... ive had to soooo many times... i think its maxaran and morphine mixed. i went a got a face x ray done as well... and the doctor noticed a build up of fluid in my sinuses.... he's now thinking that it may of been my sinuses all along... and not migraines. we are in the middle of figuring that out now... but i am pregnant as well, so i can only take certain things for pain. i know exactly how you feel.... its not fun at all!!  i sometimes go numb on my left side of the face...my ears burn, i see red flecks... i definately cannot drive when i have a migraine, i feel like my speech is slurred... and im sensitive to light and sound. maybe ask to get a face xray and see if they find anything there. good luck to you
