Migraine help?

I am a 19 year old female. Around 5'9 and 145 lbs. I rarely get headaches, and when I do they're usually minor pain and fleeting. Last night I went to bed with a headache. I thought maybe I just needed to hydrate and get some rest. However, upon awaking this morning it had gotten worse into what I'm assuming is a migraine. I did have to go to work, which then proceeded to escalate the migraine. My head is throbbing, I can't focus, I'm sensitive to lights and sounds, I felt dizzy and lightheaded at work, and when I first got to work I felt like throwing up. I don't know anything about headaches or migraines but I'm hoping this isn't serious. I never drink alcohol or caffeinated drinks. I haven't been exercising much besides a little labor in the work environment. I sleep, drink water, eat normal meals. What is wrong with me?

Hi and welcome to the Migraines & Headaches Community.

Some other suggestions are...

Take Excedrin - it contains Aspirin, Caffeine and Tylenol. So, that takes care of your caffeine intake. You can rub some Mentholatum on your forehead and temples as that helps to relax the dilated blood vessels. It also helps to put a bit of pressure on your head and what I do is wear a cloth headband but wear it around your head like a bandanna, you can do that with or without the Mentho, whichever is more comfy for you.

Please keep us posted.

that's a migraine alright a few suggestions never turn out the lights when your light sensitive...turn it down put it behind you when you turn off the lights the sensitivity increases excessively. try to stay in a quite place relax lay down if you can a bag of 1/2 ice half water to the base of the neck is helpful when meds do not help at all.Eat chocolate or drink a caffeinated soda.....caffeine helps. In only extreme cases you might try an energy drink...only about an inch or 2 dont drink the whole thing as its not that good for ya. Also keep track of when they happen it might be caused by your menstrual cycle.

Sounds like a migraine as they can last hours or even days. Hope you are feeling better now if not lay in a dark room and try to do very little til it passes. Take some painkillers too
