Migraine with Aura

Hello all. 20 year old non smoking or drinking male here. Yesterday I experienced my first ever migraine. I had an Aura with it that looked like a bunch of colors in a C shape that lasted about 20 minutes. It was pretty scary. I went to the eye doctor before I knew it was a migraine based event. She said my eyes and optic nerve are incredibly healthy. Problem is, I never get any headaches and nobody in both sides of my family does, either. Could it have been a pinched nerve in my neck somewhere that caused this? Or am I developing a problem? It's bothering me right now because I don't know when it is going to happen again.

You are welcome and I hope you don't get any more too. I get aura's every other day so I get frustrated but they don' t usually have a migraine after so I'm lucky. You do get used to them. The fairly well known scientist Dr. Feinman had auras. He taught at Cal Tech in Pasadena California amoung other places and thought they were cool because of all the colors and patterns.

Too early to tell after one episode. Ive suffered for 20 odd yrs. Ive known Pol have one and never again. Its pretty scathe but I hope its a one off for you. If it happens again keep a diary and after a month or 2 go see your doc. Note your triggers if you have any and obviously avoid them. I don't have any but many do.

Your description of your migraine aura is classic. It is scary and I have had them for years. Did you get a headache too? I started getting a migraine variant when I was 23. It is a typical age for getting them for the first time. The headaches are usually on one side of the front of the head. Some things to avoid, stress, flashing lights, MSG, Cheddar cheese, red wine, sulfites (in wine) sulfur dioxide (in dried fruit). There are other things but you have to determine what triggers yours.  I now get double vision and vertigo with mine. I am having trouble with these new symtoms. I used to throw up at night as well and abdominal pain. You might want to see a neurologist that specializes in migraines. I had an electroencepalogram done (EEG) which measures your brain waves and pattern. I am positive but with meds I am negative, but still get the headaches and auras just not the vomiting etc. You could wait to see if you get another one then see the neurologist but most likely you will.
take care,
