Migraine with Excessive Sleeping

I have had what has been diagnosed as migraines in my right eye for almost a year.  The pain varies from annoying to completely debilitating. It only occurs on the right side in and around my right eye.  Sometimes I also experience numbness radiating out from the pain.  Migraine medications do not work, but very high doses of ibuprofen does.

About the same time as the migraines started, I began sleeping excessively - from 14 to 16 hours a day.  I literally cannot get up.  If I force myself, I feel disoriented and frequently pass out or come close to passing out.  My muscles ache and I have exercise intolerance.

I have numbness and tingling in various places on the right side of my body, but that could be due to pernicious anemia that was left undiagnosed for a long period of time.  I also have mitral valve prolapse with regurgitation.

I'm otherwise a healthy 25 year old female.  Are these symptoms related?  The migraines do not seem like normal migraines to me and the excessive sleeping is just ridiculous.

Avoid taking excessive OTC pain medications also because this can lead to rebound headaches. Prescription medications from your doctor may help. Best regards.

Hi,
How are you? What diagnostic tests were done in the past? Was there a CT scan or MRI? If the results were normal,  this could indeed be due to migraines or other type of primary headache such as cluster headache. There are several types of migraine including hemiplegic migraine which may present with numbness on one side of the body, pins-and-needles feeling, weakness, loss of balance and coordination, dizziness, confusion, decreased consciousness, and sensitivity to light, sound, and smell. Your symptoms may be related as seen  from the symptoms observed with this rare type of migraine. Both abortive and preventive medications may help provide relief. Talk to your doctor about this for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
