Migraines with Hand Tremors

I was diagnosed with migraine headaches when I was a teenager. I am in my early thirties and they seem to be getting progressively worse with age. Now when I get a really bad migraine I throw up all day and cannot keep anything down even water. I have even passed out the day after such headaches. I have noticed that I am also having have tremors. They do not occur all the time but their frequency seems to be increasing also. Is this normal for someone who has been suffering from migraines for almost 2 decades?

Hi,

How are you doing with the topomax?

Do you take topomax everyday?

Your CT scan was taken almost 10 years ago. Your condition seems to have persisted and as you have posted it seems to have worsened.Have you had a neurologic examination lately? A new scan may be able to help at this time just to rule out any underlying intacranial involvement. You may discuss this with your physician.

Eye problems and sinus problems also need to be ruled out.You may disuss with your physician the advantages of nerve blocks in your case.If your migraines occur almost daily and appear to be very debilitating , then you may need an adjunct to your medical therapy.

my thyroid hormone levels are normal, I've had 2 CT scans one in 1995 and 1998 and both were fine. I've never had an MRI. The headaches seem to be a lot more debilitating
with the nausea and throwing up and intense pain. Right now I'm taking topomax for prventative care and maxalt for the actual headache

I started getting migraines at 18 and I am now 33 and still suffering them.  I found a way to manage them and have only a handful of attacks a year compaired with three times a week.  I use magnesium 250mg twice a day, morning and night.  It really helps me.  I get classic migraine with the flashy aura before the headache hits.  I also get major vomiting.  I have noticed with the magnesium the headaches are not as bad as they used to and now just have nausea w/o vomiting.  I hate them, but I am stuck with them, and I read they do continue to get worse up to minopause (sp?).  Hope this helps.

Hi,

You have been having migraines for a long time. Was a complete work up done? Any blood test ( thyroid hormone levels, coagulation factor levels ?) Any scans done ( CT scan or MRI) ?

I suggest that if thyroid hormone levels weren't assessed yet it is best to have this assessed by now. Another thing is in those twenty years ,have you been taking analgesics or anti migraine meds more than ten days in a month? Have you experienced worsening of headaches when you stopped taking the medications?

Do keep us posted with your answers.
