Need advice for ongoing pain

I have been having severe migrains since feb of this year. Im 23 and in pretty good health besides having asthma. They started out coming every couple days then every other day the headache became permanent. It lasts everyday all day. The pain kept getting worse and worse so I finally saw a nurse practitioner about 2 months ago and she put me on Topamax. I starting taking it and the headaches slowly dulled if anything and then a new pain started at the base of my skull by the middle of my lower neck. I had to recently stop taking the Topamax because I found out I was pregnant. The headaches came back full force of course and my pain that was by my lower neck has moved to the back lower right side of my head and the pain is making me feel sick. I sometimes feel quite nauseated and very very sleepy. I thought it was just because of the pregnancy but i only seem to get these certain symptoms with the pain. I had a CAT scan done back before I was put on Topamax but  I am afraid the hospital I went to didn't do the CAT scan done right.  They didn't use the contrast dye. Ive had a cat scan done before on my leg so was curious why they didn't. The hospital said they didn't see anything abnormal but I am starting to worry. What should I do?? The pain seems to just be getting worse and it seems as tho no one is listening to me.

Once you are pregnant, no doctors will want to do x-rays or give you medications because of the baby.  They will want you to see your gynecologist for your problems.  They don't want to hurt your baby, and pregnancy is temporary, so they will want to see you when you are done nursing if you still have the problem.

Food allergies can cause migraines, so you might want to keep a food diary.  Try eliminating any foods you ever thought caused problems.  Like if you thought you outgrew a dairy allergy, stop all dairy first and see if that helps.  For me, I get migraines from gluten and nuts, and my boyfriend has allergies to all fruits, and certain ones will cause migraines.  Take your vitamins as recommended by your gynecologist.

Hope you feel better.

Hi,
How are you? Indeed, medication and any diagnostic tests that may be harmful to you and the baby are not done during pregnancy. It is important that you have regular prenatal consult with your obstetrician and that you should discuss the headache and the symptoms present also. CT scan may or may not have contrast dye depending on the reason for the scan.  Aside from food diary, headache journals are also helpful in identifying the possible triggers. Aside from safe medications for pregnant women, biofeedback  and other other relaxation techniques may also help. Take care and best regards.
