Need help with headache diagnosis/cure!

Ok, i don't know exaclty what occipital means, but I'm going to assume form the prefix that it is eye related.
in a nutshell;
My girlfriend has been suffering for two from a migraine that she says causes her vision to blur occasionaly and she sometimes hears a ringing noise in her ear. she has been to 3 doctors, one said it was a pinched occi-something nerve and another said it was just a migraine, the last had no diagnosis. She had a CAT scan and still nothing. They perscribed her steroids so far and though they assured her it would help, but it hasn't. She medicates herself heavily with tylenol and ib profun. The pain apparently comes and goes and seems to peak in the evening. It doesn't appear to be unbearable, but I'm not sure if she's just hiding it when she's around me so i don't get worried. any help i can get for a possible diagnosis and/or treatment is very much appreciated!! thank you!

FWIW,  I had a dizzy headache with hyperacusis for ~ 8 mo long that was very aggravating (I do not have blurry vision and didn't have tinnitis then, but I do now). Doctor thought I had transformed migraine. Anyway, I took prednisone for a week and it reduced my headache by 80% and after a few weeks it has been away for long time. Of course, I have new, other symptoms that aren't good, but it did seem to help with my dizzy headache. I guess everyone responds differently.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.
Headache associated with blurry vision, and ringing in the ears raises the suspicion of migraine. Steroids will not work if it is a migraine headache. Medications like Imitrex, Topamax and others like Verapamil have been known to work in migraine very well.
I would suggest you to consult a neurologist and discuss these options with him.
In the meantime please make sure that she takes rest in a quiet dark room. Cold compresses on head and neck will also help. She should avoid caffeine, red wine, processed meats, MSG, artificial sweeteners and carbonated drinks.
Breathing exercises and neck massage will also help.
