I have been taking Vicodin For my headaches i have constantly. Usually i always have one everday but lately I have been having Extreme pain in the center of my brain once a week! It hurts so bad i puke and moving around makes it hurt worse. I tried Iboprofun and hot baths, ice packs, sinus medecine- nothing helps not even the pain killers. I almost made my husband take me to the ER. I heard antidrepressents help but i already take those. Could something be really wrong? If i go to the dr what kind of work up will they do -or will they just pop out the RX pad? What kind of dr should i see fo this?

Hi,

A complete neurologic examination by your physician is necessary. The absence of any signficant findings in your scans may be suggestive of migraine headaches.Other differentials that you may want to look into are sinus headaches and visual problems.

Have you been diagnosed with any sinus problems before?

Any problems with vision?

Any known allergies?

Migraine headache is a likely diagnosis for your case. You may discuss with your physician the advantages of preventive migraine therapy.

Hi,

You may discuss your headaches with your surgeon.He/she may be able to guide you through this.If this is a headache that has been present for a long time already then it may not be something urgent. However,if this is a new onset headache you may require further evaluation.

This may be tension headaches or migraine headaches.Just openly communicate with your surgeon regarding this.He may opt to refer you to a neurologist.

I would say they are different every time.
some days just dull and annoying
some days a sharp shooting pain in the right side like in the center of my brain.
some are deafening an make me very sick.
and last but not least the feeling my head is being squished between to heavy bolders.
I guess im afraid of doing a consult because im currently under pre testing to have a Prolapsed utereus and rectum fixed, Which is a major surgery and i just dont have time to do more testing at this point.Although when they get really bad i almost go the the emergancy room but cause it hurts so bad.Should i wait until after the surgery to have this checked?

Hi,

For how long have you been having the headaches?

Have you been initially assessed by a physician before?

How would you characterize your headaches? Are these throbbing, dull, stabbing or sharp?

Would you be able to identify possible triggers?

A neurologist is the best person to see for this.A series of tests may be done to rule out all possible identifying causes. In your case, differentials will be a sinus headache, tension headache, headaches secondary to a cervical spine disorder, headaches secondary to an eye problem, and psychosomatic pain.

A CT scan will be able to help rule out possible problems that involve structures within the brain.A migraine headache is given as a diagnosis only after all other possible conditions have been ruled out.

I suggest that you seek an initial consult and avoid self medicating. Some pain medications may aggravate your condition when used excessively for a long  time and they may also bring with them undesirable side effects.

Hi, please consult Neurologist for examination and investigations. You will be investigated for MRI brain, some blood tests and Lumbar puncture if needed. These kind of symptoms are mainly associated with migraine but before starting the treatment for migraine doctor rule out other possibilities like brain lesion, raised intracranial tension etc.

As it is evident from  your description that you are not having any focal neurological deficit hence most probably you are not suffering from brain lesion. But best is to get yourself investigated.
