Odd headaches

So I get mild-moderate headaches once or twice a week and have been getting them for years now. This wouldn't really bother me, except that they always occur on the left side of my head. My vision is also worse on that side of my head, but just slightly, and I wear contacts for this. My headaches do not get better with advil or aleeve or anything like that. They are usually slightly better after a night's sleep, but not always. Once I have them for the day, they are there for good.
The other week I had the worst headache ever that lasted for 3 days, but it was an all over ache (though worse on that one side) and I was very sensitive to light and sound. But this has only happened once.
So my question is, is this just a funky tension headache? or is it something you think I should be concerned about?

Hi, Thank you for your question.  For persistent headaches, possibilities like migrainous, cluster, tension and refractive errors that need to be evaluated thoroughly with the help of a neurologist here. Migraine like headache can be throbbing, one sided of face & head and preceded by aura (starts with blurred vision). Cluster headache may appear as burning, explosive in nature and tear appears from eyes. Tension headache originates with stress and anxiety disorder. Please arrange an appointment with a neurologist right away who will evaluate the further underlying disorders by clinically examine you & ordering MRI or CT scan here that may be the main reasons of your headache attacks & other symptoms and can provide you an appropriate treatment. Hope this information proves helpful to you. Take Care & Regards!!!

Thank you Eddie1994. :]
I just didn't think it was a migrane because it wasn't that bad. But I guess if you can have mild migrains, then that makes sense.
I will certainly bring it up to the doctor.

Quite likely you are experiencing a migraine since it seems to be relatively hemispherically left sided.  You may want to talk to your Doctor.  Your Doctor may refer you to a Neurologist for a work up to rule out anything incidious.  There are medications to help abort migraines and some medications to help manage and keep them at bay.  Over the counter meds may not be a solution for migraines.

When you visit your Doctor, be sure to discuss the "worst headache."  I always warn about the potential for brain aneruysms when someone describes a headache as such.  Dosen't mean you have one but don't leave it to chance.  Have it evaluated by a Neurologist.

Good luck and be well.
