PLEASE HELP MY SON

My son (14 yrs old, 6'2, 155 lbs) has had chronic, DAILY headaches for almost 4 years.  They seem to have started after he landed on his chin in a bicycling accident.  All MRI's,CAT scans, Blood tests, echochardiogram, spinal tap and neurological exams are normal.  He has been to the following specialists: He is on his THIRD neurologist, tmj specialist, chriopractor, (3) physical therapists, rheumotologist, opthamologist, ENT, tried biofeedback, OBI dentistist., allergist, and  psychiatrist!  My son had trigger point injections which made his headaches worse. Has tried the following medications with no help: imitrex, tylenol with codeine, celexa, flexeril, doxepin, trazadone, naproxen, allegra D, prozac, lidocaine patch, fludrocortisone, mobic, inderal, migranol, zomisamide, effexor, lortab, singular. Trey is now on: singular,  nortripytline (for sleep, makes him edgy?), fludrocortisone, loratadine, depakote.

Trey is currently seeing an osteopath/physical therapist who says his tissues are reacting positively to her treatments.  A lot of the pain seems to be in his over-charged nerves. My son has headaches EVERY SINGLE day of his young life, and truly believes that no one else would be ablet to stand such pain.  I am almost at my witts' end trying to help him.  Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.!

I forgot to mention: My son's headaches are across his forehead, not triggered by light, sound, foods, no auras, no nausea

How terrible for your son.  After reading many posts on this message board, it is unbelievable how many people have chronic symptoms with no diagnosis.

It certainly sounds like your son has had an extensive work-up regarding his symptoms.  How is he functioning in day to day life with the headaches?  You said they are every day?

My daughter has had problems but only the last several months with head tightness/pressure but she has had many other symptoms like vertigo, nausea and fatigue.  Also has had many tests and extensive bloodwork with all being normal.

It is very frustrating as a monther, as you know, to cope with this.  We were also told that her symptoms were "somatic" and she should seek counseling.  Can I ask you what your experience was in seeing a psychiatrist?  How did that go?

Hi Faraway,
Sorry to hear about your son. When I was in high school I had serious issues with daily headaches. They sent me to a neurologist who said they were "stress headaches." Eventually my parents convinced the Dr. to send me a chiropractor, who found that my jaw was out of alignment. I was then sent to a TMJ specialist like your son who did jaw therapy which consisted of weird pulsing machines and a mouth piece. It seemed to help, but my headaches weren't completely relieved until I had braces put on later.

Although, it sounds like your son has already been down these avenues. I'm not a Dr. but my guess would be that it has something to do with his jaw. Has he had x-rays of his jaw/teeth? Good luck!

We went to the psychiatrist to rule out anything psychological.  He was depressed BECAUSE of his headaches, and not vice versa.

wow i have been having headaches everyday now for the past two years or so. I have been to the neurologist saids everything is normal. Thinks that these headaches are from stress. I have been to my regular doctor which in say dont worry. I have been to the emergency room with the contius headache. They in fact that gave me the referrel to the neurologist. The neurologist wants to give me an injection. And if that doesnt work he said he would remove the nerve. At this point i have made my decisoin i would like to just take out the nerve completely. Has anyone had this done. Side Effects if any? Can you let me know.
thanks
