Pain killers, such as morphine, trigger migraines

by nr6332, Aug 08, 2009 12:40PM
Recently I went to ER for an intestinal blockage due to Crohns Disease.  I was given Morphine and other pain killers which triggered an unbearable migraine (has happened before).  I suffered from migraines years ago, but have had them rarely in the last 10 years, so this was unexcpected.  I was given immitrex but told I could only have two doses in 24 hours, which was not enough.  What do I do If I have to go to the ER in pain in the future?  It frightens me to think I might have to endure that kind of pain again.  I also got a migraine when required to drink the prep for a colonoscopy and had an empty stomach.  These headaches make me want to look for a gun.  Any suggestions?
